A: The work permit and social security card for foreigners have now been officially combined. There is no need to apply separately for a physical work permit. All work authorization information will be directly loaded onto the social security card, making both online and offline procedures more convenient.

Q: Can residence suspension services be handled online?

A: Not yet. This service requires the applicant to complete in-person facial verification.

Q: What is the process for employers hiring foreigners to work in China (for stays over 90 days)?

A: The application process consists of four steps:

1.The employer must first register an account on the official “Foreign Work Management Service System” and submit an online application. Once approved, the “Notice of Work Permit for Foreigners” can be downloaded and printed.

2.The foreign national can then take this notice, along with other required documents, to a Chinese embassy or consulate abroad to apply for the corresponding Z, F, or R visa.

3.After entering China, the foreign national should download the “Electronic Social Security Card” app. By registering with their name, work permit number, or social security number and completing real-name verification, they will receive an electronic social security card that already contains all work permit information.

4.Within 30 days of entry, the foreign national must bring the necessary documents to the local Public Security Bureau’s Exit-Entry Administration to apply for a work-related residence permit. This step must not be delayed.

A: Foreigners holding the “Certificate of Skill Qualification for Foreigners” in the Hainan Free Trade Port are recognized for their “special skills.” Essentially, as long as they hold this certificate, they enjoy the same rights as local professionals within the designated time and professional fields.
